In an effort to strengthen public safety and promote peace throughout the city, Tijuana Mayor Ismael Burgueño Ruiz has appointed David García Barraza as the new Director General of the Municipal Police and Traffic Department.
García Barraza brings 22 years of experience within the police force, a tenure that includes various leadership roles across multiple districts in Tijuana. His appointment, according to Mayor Burgueño, reflects the municipal government’s ongoing commitment to enhancing security for the residents of Tijuana.
“David García Barraza is a dedicated public servant with a strong background not only in police operations but also in coordinating efforts and working closely with the community—essential qualities to continue improving safety in our city,” the mayor said.
The mayor also expressed appreciation for the work of Juan Carlos Hernández Herrera, the outgoing director, who made significant contributions to the department during his tenure and helped strengthen the city’s public safety strategies.
Since joining the Municipal Police in 2003, García Barraza has held several key positions, including Regional Operational Deputy Director, Regional Operational Commander, District Chief in the Centenario district, and Deputy Chief in delegations such as Los Pinos, Sánchez Taboada, Playas de Tijuana, and San Antonio de los Buenos. He also served as Deputy General Chief and Supervisor in the Zona Centro delegation.
The XXV Tijuana City Council reaffirmed its commitment to public safety and pledged to continue working to ensure the well-being of the city’s residents.
