COVID VACCINATION IN POPULATION 50 TO 59 YEARS OLD BEGINS IN MEXICALI

With the installation of a “morning” module in Plaza Cachanilla in Mexicali, the Covid vaccination for the population ranging from 50 to 59 years began on Monday according to the Baja California Ministry of Health.

The Secretary of State for Health, Alonso Óscar Pérez Rico, specified that from 8:00, am to 2:00 pm, vaccines are also available to older adults (60 and over), as well as pregnant women.

He reiterated that in addition to this site, from 4:00 pm to 10:00 pm, the three previously announced high-efficiency sites in Mexicali would be in operation for the immunization of 50 to 59 years:

 * Center for Fairs, Events, and Exhibitions (Fex): Río Nuevo, no number.

 * Sports City: Calzada Aviación, Cuauhtémoc neighborhood.

 * Military Barracks 23 Motorized Cavalry Regiment: Calle Heroico Colegio Militar

 “We already started in the morning (Monday) with the vaccination in Mexicali, from 50 to 59 years old and the entire shipment from Mexicali for that range is about to arrive; we will also be vigilant that the safety and health protocols are respected in this city,” detailed the secretary of health.

He reported that the total population of Baja California exceeds 3 million people and that to date there are 823 thousand 609 doses applied to citizens, of that number 359 thousand 667 already have a complete Covid vaccination scheme, which in percentage represents only the 13%.

The state official mentioned that in addition to the immunization strategy in Mexicali, the following points will be enabled in Tijuana: the new Government Center and the UABC, Campus Otay.

Ensenada: La Misión Elementary, No.21 Telesecundaria, Benito García Elementary and Health Services Jurisdiction (in this last point medical personnel) and San Quintín: Health Services Jurisdiction.

He explained that for the population of the private medical sector in Tijuana, they open vaccination at the General Hospital of Tijuana, where it is necessary to come with an ID; “they were summoned the last two days, at least we want to vaccinate 250 people until noon.”

Currently, the Covid hospital occupancy in Baja California is 23.47%, with 433 available beds, 232 available ventilators, 98 hospitalized patients (confirmed by a laboratory), and an effective reproduction rate of 1.39.

Regarding the numbers of people infected by COVID-19 in our entity, the SISVER (national) platform reports at the midnight cutoff on May 23, that 111 thousand 111 cases have been studied, of which 48 thousand 499 were positive.

In Tijuana there are 17,533 patients; 18,707 in the city of Mexicali; Ensenada 6,903;  Rosarito 1,077; Tecate with 1,574; in San Quintín/Vicente Guerrero 2,005 and San Felipe 700; there are 45,294 recovered COVID-19 patients.

Regarding deaths from coronavirus, they report accumulated 8,118. Tijuana with 3,635, Mexicali 3,007; Ensenada 1,118;  Tecate 193;  Rosarito 31;  San Quintín/Vicente Guerrero with 124 and San Felipe 10 deaths.

Baja California decreased its active cases compared to the previous day, 389 in total, divided as follows: Mexicali: 293, Tijuana: 77, Ensenada: 12, San Quintín: 0, Playas de Rosarito: 1, Tecate: 1 and Saint Philip: 5.
