The Mexican Consulate in San Diego is providing consular support following the capsizing of a panga-style boat off Torrey Pines State Beach, which resulted in the deaths of four individuals and the hospitalization of two others. Among the deceased are two Mexican nationals, while two additional Mexican nationals, including a minor, were hospitalized.
The incident occurred early Monday morning, when the U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Border Patrol San Diego Sector responded to reports of an overturned vessel near Del Mar. Authorities discovered the bodies of three victims at approximately 6:30 a.m., and several survivors were transported to local hospitals. One of the deceased is believed to be a minor of Indian nationality whose body was not recovered.
Consular officials visited a local hospital to interview the hospitalized Mexican nationals. The minor received consular assistance, and contact was established with her mother in Mexico to coordinate their reunification.
The Consulate’s Department of Protection is also coordinating with the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office to repatriate the bodies of the two deceased Mexican nationals. Contact has been made with their families in Mexico to facilitate the process.
Additionally, consular staff interviewed seven Mexican nationals who were not injured and remain in the custody of U.S. immigration authorities.
The Consulate General of Mexico reaffirmed its commitment to protect and assist Mexican nationals abroad and emphasized its continued support for the victims and their families during this time.
