Mexicali, B.C.- The Charros de Jalisco, representing Mexico in the Serie del Caribe Mexicali 2025, continued their flawless run with a commanding 7-2 victory over Japan, bringing their record to 4-0 in the tournament.

A packed El Nido de Los Águilas, filled with 17,000 passionate fans, erupted in celebration as Mexico secured its most decisive win in the regular round. Under the leadership of manager Benjamín Gil, the Charros demonstrated their dominance on both offense and defense, setting the tone for the upcoming semifinal stage.

Mexico Strikes Early, Seals the Win in the Fifth

The Charros wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, with Jack Mayfield delivering his second RBI of the tournament in the first inning, putting Mexico in the lead.

Japan managed to respond in the fourth inning, plating a run to keep the game competitive. However, Mexico’s explosive fifth inning proved to be the turning point. Capitalizing on two balks, a defensive error, a key RBI single from Mateo Gil, and a sacrifice fly by Donovan Casey, the Charros extended their lead to a comfortable margin, securing a victory they would never relinquish.

Solid Pitching Leads the Way

Luis Iván Rodríguez (1-0) was outstanding on the mound, delivering five strong innings, allowing just one earned run on seven hits while striking out five batters. The bullpen followed suit, with Luis Payán, Adrian Gusman, Jared Wilson, Mario Meza, and David Gutiérrez closing out the game with efficiency and control.

On the opposing side, Japan’s starting pitcher Rintaro Hirama (0-1) took the loss, surrendering two earned runs on five hits over four innings.

What’s Next in the Tournament?

The regular round concludes on Tuesday, with two crucial matchups set to determine the semifinal pairings:

  • Puerto Rico vs. Dominican Republic at 2:00 PM PT
