The Center for Viticulture Studies (CEVIT) at CETYS University’s Ensenada International Campus has introduced a new Master’s program in Viticulture and Wine Business, designed to train professionals seeking to develop careers in the wine sector.
This program is the first of its kind offered in Mexico, targeting professionals in fields such as administration, industrial engineering, food science, agronomy, chemistry, or related areas.
Dr. Francisco Vélez, Director of CETYS University’s Ensenada International Campus, stated that the curriculum addresses the needs of the wine industry and the development of high-level human talent. “This master’s program focuses on three areas of specialization: grapevine development, the wine production process, and the commercial aspect, including business administration and management in viticulture.”
Dr. Diana Celaya Tentori, Director of CEVIT, added, “The master’s program is designed around the entire grapevine lifecycle. We aim to attract students from other wine-producing regions to join without needing to be physically present. The Virtual Flex format allows students to attend remote classes and participate in hands-on summer practices.”
The two-year program, depending on academic load, includes 15 quarterly courses offered in a hybrid format with remote classes and summer in-person sessions.
The launch event was attended by CETYS University executives, academics, wine industry representatives, media, and professionals interested in joining the program’s inaugural cohort.
Fernando Rodríguez Cetto, Tourism Manager of Grupo Cetto, highlighted the program’s value: “It will greatly benefit the industry, providing deeper knowledge and enabling specialization without leaving the country.”
Héctor Corona of Corona del Valle Winery emphasized its practicality: “I appreciate the integration with local wineries and vineyards. Highlighting the practical aspect is crucial.”
Mexico’s wine industry spans 17 states, with over 35,000 hectares dedicated to grape cultivation, employing over 500,000 workers, making it the second-largest source of agricultural employment.
Established in 2022, CEVIT bridges academia and the industry, driving technological development and innovation. Through applied research and industry collaboration, it transforms ideas into impactful technological solutions.
