CETYS Universidad Campus Mexicali hosted the 2025 Regional World Robot Olympiad (WRO) for the second consecutive year, bringing together more than 40 teams of students aged 5 to 22 from across Baja California. Centered on the theme “The Future of Robots,” the event highlighted creativity, teamwork, and technological innovation in a day of dynamic competition and learning.
Approximately 110 students participated in a series of challenges designed to simulate real-world problems through robot design and programming. The competition was divided into categories including RoboMissions, Robotic Sports, Future Engineers, and Future Innovators. The initiative aims to strengthen STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) education while developing critical 21st-century skills such as collaboration, problem-solving, and critical thinking.
CETYS officials present at the event included Dr. Mario Dipp Núñez, Director of CETYS Campus Mexicali; Dr. Juan Manuel Terrazas Gaynor, Director of the School of Engineering for the CETYS System; Mtra. Ana Georgina Villalba Cuervo, Director of CETYS High School in Mexicali; and Mtra. Cecilia Tagliapietra Ovies, Academic Director of CETYS Mexicali.
The event also welcomed Jorge Sánchez and Jorge Hernández, national coordinators of WRO Mexico, as well as Mtro. Andrés Daniel Ruelas Martínez, Director of Grupo Educativo 16 de Septiembre. Corporate collaborators included Skyworks, Kenworth, Gulfstream, Honeywell, Geeks Academy, MiniLabs, and Grupo Educativo 16 de Septiembre.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Mario Dipp highlighted the importance of providing youth with space to explore their potential in an encouraging environment:
“We aim to give young people a place where they can discover how far they can go—while enjoying themselves in a fun atmosphere as they explore who they want to become.”
Dr. Terrazas Gaynor emphasized the deeper value of the competition:
“Today, it’s not just robots competing—it’s imagination, teamwork, perseverance, and the passion each of you brings to this project. Every error, attempt, and robot adjustment is part of the learning journey shaping the brilliant minds of the future.”
The World Robot Olympiad is more than a competition—it serves as a platform to inspire future scientists, engineers, and leaders. CETYS reaffirmed its commitment to comprehensive education by hosting an event that connects classroom learning with real-world application in a global context.
