The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced the implementation of a new process for issuing I-94 permits at the Calexico East Port of Entry, which will take effect on Monday, March 17, 2025.
To manage the high volume of travelers requiring this permit when entering the U.S., applicants arriving by vehicle will no longer be able to park on the north side of the border or access the pedestrian processing building through the north-facing doors. Instead, they must enter through the pedestrian gate from Mexico and proceed to the designated I-94 issuance area, available daily from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
At the Calexico West Port of Entry, travelers crossing on foot will have access to the I-94 issuance area 24 hours a day. To reduce wait times, CBP recommends that travelers apply for a provisional I-94 permit online via the CBP Home mobile app or the CBP I-94 website. The online application fee is $6.00 USD, the same as an in-person application.
CBP reminds travelers that they must appear in person to complete the process, even if they have obtained a provisional I-94 online. Applicants must demonstrate financial solvency, proof of residence outside the U.S., and sufficient ties to their country of origin.
