Calexico Rotary Club Finishes a Successful Year

-Editorial

The pandemic can’t stop “Service Above Self”, and thanks to Zoom Rotary Clubs have been able to continue with their regular meetings.

The Calexico Rotary Club celebrated the end of the year cycle on Zoom June 24. The meeting was the presidential change ceremony that celebrated Maria Lucas ending her presidency and the work she accomplished in her year.

The club had the visit of District 5340 (Imperial Valley-San Diego) Governor Marta Knight and incoming Governor Steven Weitzen who officially installed Hortencia Armendariz as the president for the year 2020-2021.

They were also joined by their two sister clubs, Club Rotario Mexicali Empresarial and Club Rotario Puruandido, Michoacan, Mexico.

The COVID-19 pandemic forced the closure of many businesses in Calexico including Denny’s where the club met every week. The club went dark for a month but resumed the meetings in April bringing the member together once again to discuss ideas and projects.

The Zoom meeting has improved the attendance of club members and makes it more interactive thanks to its features.

The club was able to receive $250 USD from the Rotary COVID-19 Response Grant that will be matched by the club to buy disinfectant supplies for the Calexico Police and Fire Department. Calexico Rotary Club wants to make sure first responders are safe during this pandemic.
