Only in Calexico can you celebrate American Independence Day with the help of their sister city Mexicali providing the fireworks show from the Mexican side.
“I love living in this binational community,” said Angel Esparza, organizer of the Art Walk and Independence Day celebration at Gran Plaza Outlets in Calexico.
This Art Walk attracted thousands of people to the event that enjoyed the delicious food, games, and art that was displayed during the event.
The surprise of the evening was seeing the fireworks display from across the border fence from Mexicali as the pyrotechnics illuminated the night as families and little children enjoyed the 15-minute show.
It has become a tradition to celebrate Independence Day on July 3rd each year. It was Gran Plaza Outlets who brought back fireworks to the Independence Day celebration in Calexico years ago and since then the celebration has become bigger each year.
Over 100 exhibitors participated in this art walk from Mexicali and Imperial Valley and incorporated more local businesses like Pinki’s Hot Dogs, 2GoSalads, and Disfrutalows to the event who provided their food.
“This is a unique event in our region that brings together a diversity of attractions for all the family to enjoy,” Esparza said.
