A group of 4 young Cachanillas makes up the “Garage Builders” team which represented Mexico in the “Minecraft Masters Global Competition” organized by the North American School Electronic Sports Federation (NASEF) and were crowned champions, defeating teams from countries such as the United States, Egypt, Israel, and England in a competition that lasted several weeks and allowed the participants to demonstrate their skills.
Minecraft is a construction video game where users can develop their creativity and skills in the field of architecture, mechanics, and survival. Since 2016, the video game launched its educational version, a collaborative and versatile platform aimed at teachers and students in educational environments.
The team is made up of 14-year-old Alan Llanes, 16-year-old Gabriel Cárdenas, 13-year-old Pedro Uribe and 18-year-old Ricardo Villegas, supported by his master advisor Leobardo Frem, 21, coordinator of the robotics and skills area, all members of El Garage Project Hub, Department of Innovation of the Educational Group ” 16 de Septiembre” in Mexicali, Baja California, a creative space that designs learning experiences in the field of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) with social impact, in this program they represent various robotics teams of different levels and categories; they have obtained endless prizes, awards, and medals in local, national and international competitions.
The final competition took place on Saturday, August 8 and the Cachanilla Team confronted England, where for 4 hours they applied their knowledge of construction, programming and commands acquired in this experience proclaiming themselves the new ” Minecraft Masters ”, and obtaining a very pleasant and new experience, with many more prizes to continue developing their soft, technological and creative skills. This new modality called ee-Sports (educational electronics sports) implemented in “Garage” aims to share the knowledge with the Mexican community, thus creating a new branch of education in Mexico.
