Bishop of Mexicali Calls for Hope, Solidarity, and Love

-Editorial

On the occasion of the Christmas celebration, the Bishop of Mexicali, Enrique Sánchez Martínez, delivered an emotional message to the Catholic community of the diocese, highlighting the importance of encounter, dialogue, and solidarity amid the current challenges facing society.

During a breakfast with the media at the offices of the Diocese of Mexicali, the bishop thanked the media for their support and made himself available to them. The bishop has been here for a year, replacing José Isidro Guerrero Macías.

The bishop recalled the central meaning of Christmas: the incarnation of the Word of God in the person of Jesus, who became flesh to engage with humanity and show the path of hope. “The sign of hope became flesh,” stated Sánchez Martínez, emphasizes that, during the night, Jesus arrived to share in human struggles and break the cycle of indifference.

In his message, the bishop called for reflection on the crisis of values facing modern society, highlighting global issues such as environmental degradation, poverty, forced migration, armed conflicts, and the leadership crisis. He also addressed the local reality in Baja California, pointing to violence, insecurity, and poverty as signs of this crisis that directly affect families and communities.

Sánchez Martínez invited the faithful to adopt three key attitudes in preparation for the arrival of the Savior: to welcome the Lord with humility, following the example of the shepherds who were the first to hear the news of Jesus’ birth; to recognize God’s action in current history, accepting that humanity continues to experience God’s presence through the charity of Christians around the world, and to imitate the newborn Christ, living the love and mercy of the Father, especially through service to others and loving submission to God’s will.

The bishop shared a prayer in which he asked for world peace, the well-being of families, and comfort for victims of violence, migrants, the sick, and prisoners. He prayed to God for the unity of families and the protection of the rights of the most vulnerable, especially women, children, and the elderly.

Finally, Sánchez Martínez expressed his best wishes for Christmas and the New Year 2025. “May the birth of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, ignite love and hope in our hearts, our families, communities, ministries, and in our world,” he concluded.

With this message, the Bishop of Mexicali reminded the community of the importance of opening their hearts to hope, charity, and faith, especially in times of uncertainty. Christmas, he noted, is a call to solidarity, dialogue, and love—essential values for transforming society and building a more just and humane world.
