MEXICALI, B. C.- The Government of the State headed by President Francisco Vega de Lamadrid, through the Ministry of Health, reiterates call to vaccinate against influenza, which is available in the health sector.
In a press conference, the Director of Health Services of ISESALUD, Néstor Saúl Hernández Milán, indicated that in the interest of the Secretary of Health, Guillermo Trejo Dozal, the promotion activities are reinforced so that the population protects their health and their families, due to the fact that in this season an increase in cases due to influenza is expected.
He commented that in this winter period 2018-2019 there is a registry of 46 cases confirmed by influenza type AH1N1; of which 23 are from the Jurisdiction of Mexicali, 21 from the Jurisdiction of Tijuana that includes Playas de Rosarito and Tecate, 1 from the Jurisdiction of Ensenada and 1 from the Jurisdiction of Vicente Guerrero.
He noted that unfortunately the first death was recorded by influenza AH1N1 of a 32 years old female patient, a resident of the city of Ensenada, who had co-morbidities such as diabetes, obesity, smoking, in addition, she did not have a history of vaccination.
He mentioned that the best way to prevent this disease, is vaccination especially in susceptible groups such as pregnant women, children under 5 years, adults over 60 years, people with obesity and immunosuppression problems: diabetes mellitus, HIV, cancer, kidney failure, transplants, use of steroids or biological agents; with respiratory diseases: chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, smoking or pulmonary arterial hypertension.
For his part, the State Head of Epidemiology, Oscar Efrén Zazueta Fierro, recommended to apply preventive measures such as: washing hands constantly, warming up, avoiding sudden changes in temperature, consuming plenty of fluids, fruits and vegetables, sneezing with the internal angle of the arm, avoiding greeting people with flu with a kiss or a handshake; avoiding sharing food or drinks; constantly washing door handles, and avoid contact with people with the flu.
He clarified that there has been no outbreak of influenza in the migrant caravan, so far there have been reported 4 thousand 450 attentions specifically for Acute Respiratory Infections, of which 3 thousand 258 are from Tijuana and one thousand 192 from Mexicali, likewise 14 cases of varicella in the El Barretal shelter in Tijuana have been recorded, and continued with follow-up of the cases.
