BAJA CALIFORNIA ACHIEVES FIRST NATIONAL PLACE IN MANUFACTURE GROWTH IN 2019

  • INEGI presents industrial activity data for May

MEXICALI, BC- Thursday, September 19, 2019.- Due to the structural strengths of the entity and the policies of attraction and retention of companies developed by the State Administration headed by Governor Francisco Vega de Lamadrid, in the first five months of 2019, manufacturing in Baja California grew 9% annually, achieving the 1st national place, according to the information released by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), on industrial activity for May.

The Secretary of Economic Development, Carlo Bonfante Olache, explained that, in general, the total industrial activity of Baja California, registered an annual growth of 0.7% compared to May 2018, contrary to the national behavior that was -3.3%. The growth of industrial activity was supported by the behavior of manufacturing activity, which increased by 3.9%.

Considering the first five months of 2019, the industrial activity in the entity registered an annual growth of 4.3%, positioning itself in the 6th national place where, as indicated, manufacturing punctuated nationally, while the generation, transmission, and distribution of Electric power, water and gas supply, increased 11.8%, getting a 9th national place.
