National Recognition from the Union of Concerned Scientists

(SACRAMENTO, CA) Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia (D-Coachella) was honored to be named The Union of Concerned Scientists’ (UCS) 2016 “Got Science Champion.”

UCS is a national organization that brings together a coalition of scientists and engineers to seek scientific solutions for climate change.  Every year, 5 champions are selected for work that embodies and furthers their mission.

“We are pleased to honor Assemblymember Garcia for his work in 2016 as a champion of science and an advocate for strong action on climate change,” stated Adrienne Alvord, UCS western states director. “His leadership authoring AB 197 and leading the effort to pass SB 32 through the Assembly was a tremendous accomplishment in service of the public good.”

This year’s landmark passage of SB 32 and AB 197 set a new state emission reduction mandate, while broadening the framework for future climate change policy to emphasize investments into environmentally vulnerable communities.

“As California works to achieve climate equity, I will continue to prioritize opportunities for disadvantaged populations that are most affected by pollution,” pledges Assemblymember Garcia.
