Art Basel Paris has unveiled further details of its highly anticipated 2024 edition, set to take place from October 18-20, with exclusive VIP Preview Days on October 16 and 17. In an exciting announcement, the renowned art fair revealed a major collaboration with the iconic fashion brand Miu Miu, which will serve as the Official Partner for the Public Program. As part of this partnership, Miu Miu will present a special project titled Tales & Tellers at the Palais d’Iéna, offering a unique fusion of fashion and contemporary art within the broader program.
The Public Program will feature freely accessible exhibitions, installations, and monumental sculptures across various prestigious Parisian venues. Some of the participating artists include Jesse Darling, Jean-Charles de Quillacq, Niki de Saint Phalle, Yayoi Kusama, and Thomas Schütte. With the addition of five new venues, including the Domaine national du Palais-Royal and the Petit Palais, Art Basel continues to solidify its connection to Paris’ rich cultural heritage, positioning itself as a key player in the city’s vibrant art scene.
In addition to these exhibitions, the fair will spotlight Surrealism and Arte Povera within its various sectors, such as Galeries, Emergence, and Premise. Media representatives can expect thematic booths and presentations featuring luminaries of both Modern and contemporary art.
Art Basel Paris will also host the second edition of The Art Basel Shop, curated by Sarah Andelman. This innovative concept store will offer exclusive lifestyle products, including items inspired by the artist collective Claire Fontaine. The event’s new initiative, Oh La La!, will showcase re-hangings of unexpected artworks from 33 galleries, adding an element of surprise for visitors.
As one of the foremost cultural events in the art world, Art Basel Paris promises to deliver an exciting week of world-class exhibitions and creative partnerships.
The Palais d’Iéna, an architectural gem by Auguste Perret and a symbol of modernism in Paris, will be the venue for Tales & Tellers, a special project at Art Basel Paris this year. Miu Miu, the iconic fashion brand and official partner of the public program, is making this extraordinary presentation possible, blending art, fashion, and cinema.
Conceived by interdisciplinary artist Goshka Macuga and curated by Elvira Dyangani Ose, Director of the Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA), Tales & Tellers draws inspiration from two key creative projects by Miu Miu. The first is the Women’s Tales film commission, launched in 2011, which invites female filmmakers such as Mati Diop, Miranda July, and Alice Rohrwacher to explore themes of vanity and femininity. The second component includes video art from Miu Miu’s runway shows since 2021, featuring works by artists like Sophia Al-Maria, Cécile B. Evans, and Jeong Geum-hyung.
This dynamic project will offer screenings of all commissioned short films from Women’s Tales, alongside performances and panel discussions with the artists and filmmakers involved. The event promises to be an engaging fusion of visual storytelling, fashion, and contemporary art, marking a unique moment in the Art Basel Paris lineup.
