The Foundation for Education’s 5th Annual Golf Fundraiser, held on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at Del Rio Country Club, successfully raised funds to support scholarships for alternative education and special education students in Imperial County.

A total of 104 golfers, forming 26 teams, participated in the scramble-style tournament, enjoying favorable weather conditions on the course. The event also featured a raffle with a variety of prizes, including an RC car donated by Desert RV, restaurant gift certificates, and gift baskets.

The top-performing teams and Closest to the Pin winners were recognized during the event. The Garland Team (John Beltran, Mike Reyla, Anthony Valenzuela, and Armando Valenzuela) secured first place, followed by the Sun Community Team (Daniel Paramo, Daniel Paramo Jr., Josh Wise, and Joel Gonzalez Sr.) in second place, and the Smith-Kandal Insurance/Real Estate Team (Matt Buckner, Blaise Smith, Josh Fargo, and Dr. Brian Tyson) in third. Blaise Smith and Manny Gamez won the Closest to the Pin contests on Holes 3 and 16, each receiving a $100 gift certificate from Grasso’s Restaurant and Town Pump/Brownie’s Diner.

“A huge thank you to our generous sponsors, enthusiastic golfers, and community members for making our 5th Annual Golf Fundraiser a resounding success, directly benefiting our most vulnerable students,” said Dr. Todd Finnell, County Superintendent of Schools and Foundation for Education President. “We are truly grateful for the support of our community in supporting education.”

The Foundation for Education is currently accepting scholarship applications from high school seniors enrolled in alternative education or continuation schools, students at Imperial Pathways Charter School, and students with disabilities who plan to attend a career technical school, community college, or university in the fall. The application deadline is April 17, with awards announced on May 19, 2025.

The next fundraising event hosted by the Foundation for Education will be the Annual Autumn & the Arts Fundraiser, a celebration of students, the arts, and education, scheduled for Thursday, October 2, 2025.
