In these times of health contingency, members of the health sector have become heroes with no cape who are exposed to the pandemic caused by COVID-19, which is why Covid-19 Open Source Medical Supply initiative emerged worldwide, in which professionals from different areas such as engineers, doctors, artists, and designers make medical supplies available free of charge to the community.

The Department of Innovation of the Educational Group 16 de Septiembre “Garage Project Hub” with the advice of the degrees in nursing and Industrial Engineering have joined and used these resources, as well as their own, to support through the manufacture of protection masks, ventilators, and respirators that are being delivered to medical personnel at no cost.

Thanks to the support of the community and their donations, production capacity has grown, since government entities such as the Secretary of Education and individuals lent their 3D printers and donated materials for the construction of these medical materials that have already been distributed in clinics and hospitals, and public medical institutions, such as the Mexicali General Hospital, Maternal, and Child Hospital and the Red Cross to just name a few. “This does not come to supply the protocols that hospitals directly have, this is something additional, something apart, extra protection,” said Andrés Ruelas Martínez CEO at “Garage Project Hub”, who also noted that they are still receiving materials such as filament PLA 1.75 mm, white elastic (5 mm wide, plus 1 cm), foam padding as well as smooth and transparent acetate sheets to continue producing the medical supplies.
