California Governor Orders Everyone to Stay at Home Due to COVID-19

California Governor Gavin Newsom issues statewide order for people to “stay at home” amid virus outbreak. The governor issued a statewide stay at home in order to help combat the spread of the novel coronavirus. The order is effective Thursday night and asks residents to leave their homes only when necessary.

Governor Gavin Newsom today announced that he has sent a letter to President Donald Trump requesting the immediate deployment of the USNS Mercy Hospital Ship to the Port of Los Angeles through September 1, 2020, to help decompress the state’s health care delivery system in Los Angeles in response to COVID-19.

All dine-in restaurants, bars, and clubs, gyms and fitness studios will be closed. according to the order. Public events and gatherings are also not allowed. Essential services will stay open, such as pharmacies, grocery stores, takeout and delivery restaurants, and banks.

Newsom expects 56 percent of California’s population, 25.5 million people, will be infected over an eight-week period this spring.

Newsom’s letter to President Trump cited 126 new cases statewide in the last 24 hours, an increase of 21 percent, and said the case rate has been doubling every four days.
