La Cachimba kicks off their 12th year together with aspirations of making 2019 the band’s breakthrough year. With already 3 shows under their belt in the new year, including a Thursday night show at the House of Blues in Anaheim — a first for the band, there are no limits to what this Valley staple can conquer.
On Friday, January 4th, La Cachimba, the Calexico/Mexicali-based ska band returned to Brawley at Vaquero’s Bar and Grill for the first time since June of 2018. Audience members danced into the early hours of Saturday morning to several Rock en Español classics. Although the band enjoys playing for the local crowd, they are looking to achieve greater accomplishments in 2019.
In 2018, through the band’s entertainment company, LUM Entertainment, invited several legendary acts, such as Inspector and Celso Peña, to share the stage with La Cachimba at Strikezone in El Centro. LUM Entertainment spent most of last year establishing a consistent following at Strikezone which has now become a hotspot for entertainment in the Valley.
Looking to continue this success, Conga player, Tommy Velez said, “We are already talking with some big names for this year,” mentioning Snoop Dogg as one of the premier artists they are currently in communication with.
Outside of the Imperial Valley, the band is making sure their name is recognized throughout the southwestern United States. Between the months of January and February this year, La Cachimba will play in Arizona, Nevada, Baja California and for the first time in El Paso, Texas on January 11th.
Tommy also shared that the band was a spotlight artist for UNIradioSKA, Ska radio station based out of Puebla, Mexico for being the most requested music video, EGOISTA, at the closing of 2018. The band hopes to travel down to Puebla later this year to play for UNIradioSka.
With a growing appreciation for Rock en Español and Latin Rock music, La Cachimba is in the right position to make 2019 their year.
Fans of La Cachimba can expect an LP featuring new music from the band later this year. For more information, events and merchandise, follow the band on their social media pages.
