NEW PERSPECTIVES IN INTERCELLULAR COMMUNICATION

By: Dr. Elton Gómez, stem-cells expert

The flow and evolution of scientific information is evolving in an unstoppable and impressive way, particularly in the field of medical science, and particularly in the field of molecular and cellular biology, since the creation of the International Society of Cell Therapy, (ISCT for its acronym in English) that brings together professionals from different countries, including Mexico, and the creation of presidential task forces to encourage, advise and regulate the practice of cell therapies, and spread out recommendations at each step, giving us the guidelines to ensure that we are facing a new technological revolution in health, as we had not been seen in the last 60 years.

In the subject of intercellular communication, the information on nanovesicles, including endosomes and exosomes, does not stop expanding, its means of production, its possible uses as biomarkers and its probable translation towards therapeutics, supplemented with more and more information reliable and extensive on another type of intercellular communication, the nanotubes, which transport in structures that have been called “gondolas” elements too heavy to send them by exosomes.

This method of exchange of information is crucial, not only for groups of cells to perform the same functions within a tissue, but to understand the progress of certain diseases, such as cancer, since it is known that cancer cells produce a type of malignant exosomes that tend to transform healthy susceptible cells into cancer cells, which is why it is so important that countries and their health authorities promote dissemination and scientific research, especially in Mexico, where the laws In terms of health seem designed to induce backwardness in health and scientific backwardness.
