City of Phoenix Considering Bid on 2023 Super Bowl

The city of Phoenix is pushing to host its fourth Super Bowl. According to Roxann Favors, the city’s event administrator, the city and its residents are excited about the prospect.

Favors points out Phoenix’s past success of hosting major sporting events in a world-class environment.

“The city of Phoenix looks forward to supporting the efforts for Arizona to be considered as the destination for the 2023 Super Bowl and creating positive memorable experiences once again,” says Favors.

The City Council is scheduled to meet to discuss the possibility of authorizing the city’s Super Bowl Committee to place a bid for the 2023 Super Bowl and related events. This is a large step because the NFL is looking to choose Super Bowl sites for 2023 and subsequent years.

If the city is chosen, the game would be played in Glendale, but the city is ready to provide a “dedicated citywide liaison, street transportation and traffic coordination, public safety support and emergency preparedness services at no cost and use of certain city-controlled venues at no cost for official NFL events.”

While the game would be held in Glendale, Super Bowl-related events would be held in Phoenix. During the last Super Bowl held in Phoenix, in 2015, the game generated a $720 million economic impact on Arizona.

The NFL Honors, NFL Experience, Super Bowl Media Center, and the Tonight were held at the Phoenix Convention Center. Other events were also held downtime in 2015. The events, like family concerts and football-themed activities, attracted 1 million visitors to the downtown area.
