An Imperial Valley Cancer Symposium will be Presented in June at Imperial Valley College

Imperial Valley College and the Cancer Resource Center of the Desert have joined forces to present an Imperial Valley Cancer Symposium in June at the college.

The symposium will be from 9 a.m. to noon June 4 in the 2700 Science Building at IVC, 380 E. Aten Road, Imperial. There is no charge to the public or healthcare providers attending the symposium, which is intended to educate the community on advances in cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment.

Dr. Horacio Rodiles, of the U.S.-Mexico Border Health Commission will kick off the symposium with a discussion on binational health at 9:10 a.m.

Additional times, speakers and topics are:

9:40 a.m., Dr. Hasnat Ahmed of El Centro Regional Medical Center, speaking on cancer screening (breast, colon, prostate and lung;

10:10 a.m., Dr. Arsinur Burcoglu-Oral of Pioneers Memorial Healthcare District, speaking on clinical trials;

10:40 a.m., Dr. Siavosh Vakilian of Vantage Oncology Imperial Valley Cancer Center, speaking on radiation therapy;

11:10 a.m., Dr. Rafael Estrada of Oncologia Integral in Mexicali, speaking on health, nutrition and cancer: making the connection;

11:40 a.m., Diana Peacher, founder and CEO of the Cancer Resource Center of the Desert, who will give a community update.

Refreshments and snacks will be available, courtesy of the IVC Foundation.

The event allows up to 3.0 hours of continuing education credits for qualified licensed professionals. Those professionals planning to attend are asked to bring their license number so attendance can be reported.
